The People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) on Friday condemned the FIR filed against Lawyers Collective, calling at an “undisguised attempt to intimidate and silence” the group.

Calling the FIR, lodged by the Central Bureau of Investigation, “brazen abuse of the process of law,” it highlighted that the lawyers group had refuted charges made against it over allegations of violation of the Foreign Contributions Regulation Act (FCRA) 2010 in the Bombay High Court, which is currently pending.

In its statement, the group also highlighted the work of the Lawyers Collective and it’s senior office bearers, Anand Grover and Indira Jaising, including cases taken up, relating to “domestic violence, human rights violations, labour and womens’ rights.. the Naz case on rights of the LGBTQ community, the Novartis case, the Sabarimala case, the triple talaq case and the Sohrabuddin case, in which current Home Minister and BJP leader Amit Shah was involved.”
