A 37-year-old property dealer-cum-financier was gunned down by unknown assailants in what the police suspect to be a fallout of personal enmity in North-West Delhi on Saturday evening.

Police officers privy to investigation in the case said a case of murder had been registered in relation to the incident at the Prashant Vihar police station.

Identified as Vijay Dabas, the victim was killed at his office located in Rohini’s Sector 11 after he returned from the gym with one of his friends. He was a resident of Kanjhawala.

“Dabas and one of his friends had gone to the local gym, like usual, after which they went to his office and chatted for a while,” said a senior police officer.

“A few minutes later, his associate stepped out for a few minutes and found Dabas in a pool of blood when he returned,” the officer added.

He then informed the local police about the incident which despatched a team to the spot. Dabas was rushed to a private hospital for medical attention, but was declared dead on arrival by doctors.

Meanwhile, the police alerted his family about the incident and transported his body to the Ambedkar Hospital where it has been preserved for a post-mortem examination.

According to the police, investigation currently revolved around whether the victim was targeted by someone in his debt or a competitor unhappy with his business.

“We have procured footage from a network of CCTVs installed around his shop and are scanning it for clues,” the officer said.

Apart from that, the police said, they were also questioning the victim’s family and associates to ascertain whether he had fallen out with someone recently and whether this could have any connection to his murder.

“A case of murder against unknown assailants, who might have been contract killers, has been registered and investigation is underway,” the officer added.
