The Delhi Police have made elaborate security and traffic arrangements for the farmers’ march, that will start from Ramlila Maidan on Friday and move towards Parliament Street.
On Thursday, several rounds of meetings were held with the All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC) over the routes to be taken for the march.
Borders not sealed
Citing Supreme Court orders and circular of the Delhi Police regarding the protest march at Jantar Mantar, an officer said they cannot allow more than 1,000 people together at Jantar Mantar. The borders have not been sealed. “We had several rounds of meeting and it has been made clear to the rally organisers to conclude their rally at the Ramlila Ground. The police will not allow more than 1,000 people to protest at Jantar Mantar,” said a senior police officer.
The police said special arrangements were made and around 2,000 personnel were deployed in central and New Delhi districts in connection with the farmers’ rally.
“The Reserve Police Force has also been stationed at nearby police stations to call in case of need. The arrangements will be supervised by Special Commissioner of Police and Joint Commissioner of Police,” said the officer. Around 350 traffic policemen have been deployed near Ramlila Ground and New Delhi district to keep traffic flow smooth.
Joint CP Alok Kumar said the rally is likely to be followed by a march to Jantar Mantar from 9 a.m. The route of the march will be via Guru Nanak Chowk-Ranjit Singh Flyover-Tolstoy Marg. Traffic is likely to be affected on roads surrounding Ramlila Ground, Mandir Marg, Barakhamba Road, K.G. Marg, Janpath, Ashoka Road and Outer Circle of Connaught Place.
“Traffic diversions will be affected depending upon live traffic situation. Commuters are advised to follow Delhi Traffic Police social media pages for live updates,” said Mr. Kumar.
