Police distribute dos and don’ts pamphlets

Pubs told to shut down by 12 a.m.; no exit from Rajiv Chowk metro station after 9 p.m.

The police on Sunday distributed pamphlets mentioning the dos and dont’s to be followed during New Year celebrations on Monday night.

Aimed at preventing any untoward incident, the pamphlets have been distributed in Mukherjee Nagar, Model Town and North Campus area. They highlight the prohibition on the consumption of intoxicating drinks, indecent behaviour, rash driving, eve-teasing and playing loud music in the vehicle.

DCP (North-West) Aslam Khan said adequate security arrangements have been put in place in Mukherjee Nagar for safety and security of students. “Fifteen police pickets at several locations in Mukherjee Nagar along with extensive patrolling in parks and roads have been set up. PG owners have been instructed to report any kind of nuisance happening in and around of their premises,” said Ms. Khan.

She added that the street vendors will be removed after 10 p.m., and bars and pubs owners have been instructed to shut down by 12 a.m. “We had a meeting with pub and bar owners asking them to ensure that their CCTV cameras and hand-held metal detectors are in working condition,” said Ms. Khan.

Zero-tolerance policy

“We have adopted a zero-tolerance policy against anyone found drinking in public. The offenders will be jailed immediately,” she said. Also, policemen will also be present in plain clothes in restaurants to keep a watch on suspicious activities.

Traffic arrangements

Traffic movement will be restricted on New Year’s Eve, the police said on Sunday. Connaught Place (CP) will largely remain off limits and no vehicle shall be allowed to in the inner, middle or outer circle.

ACP (Traffic) B.K. Singh said restrictions will be imposed 8 p.m. onwards in the vicinity of CP and will be applicable to all private and public transport. No vehicle will be allowed to proceed towards CP beyond Mandi House, Bengali Market, Ranjit Singh Flyover, Minto Road, R.K. Ashram Marg, Windsor Place, Kasturba Gandhi Road, Gole Market, and Jai Singh Road.

Traffic arrangements have also been made at the places including Saket, Greater Kailash, Lajpat Nagar, New Friends Colony, Hauz Khas, Defence Colony, Vasant Vihar, R.K. Puram, Nehru Place, Dwarka, Palam Airport. Police also said strict action shall be taken against drunken driving, stunt biking, and speeding, reckless and dangerous driving

Delhi Metro informed that exit of passengers from Rajiv Chowk metro station will not be permitted from 9 p.m. onwards on New Year’s Eve on orders from the Delhi Police. “However, passengers will be allowed to enter the Rajiv Chowk metro station after 9 p.m.,” the DMRC said.
