Around 80% of parents turned up for the parent-teacher meet held for 581 primary schools of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Sunday, the civic body said.
At the meetings, the parents were updated about the facilities provided by the schools like provision for stationery, textbooks, uniform subsidies, science clubs, installation of CCTV cameras, welfare schemes for girl students and minorities, mid-day meals, and steps taken for behavioural adjustments and mental and physical development of students.
The doctors and staff of the School Health Scheme briefed the parents on hygiene. The teachers and parents were also given demonstrations of CPR and told how to prevent water-borne diseases and informed about provisions of the POCSO Act, the SDMC said. The parents called for a mechanism to keep the exchange of views with the administration active in order to monitor students on educational advancements and shortcomings, the civic body said. They also called for the monitoring of mid-day meals on a daily basis.
The political leadership of the SDMC visited multiple schools. Mayor Sunita Kangra said the valuable feedback from the parents would help make interventions to improve the students’ health, well-being and learning aptitudes. Education committee chairperson Nandini Sharma said it was essential to make students aware of the POCSO Act to protect them and especially in the face of challenges due to the excessive use of social media.
