Whether the University College of Medical Sciences will be handed over to the Delhi government and older students, who were hoping to have a “special chance” to enable them to take an exam that prevented them from graduating, Delhi University will have to wait to find out if they can eventually get it and the credit transfer system might actually become a reality.
At the Academic Council meeting that went on till late on Wednesday evening, the AC members resolved to form a committee to come up with specific recommendations to deal with the special chance issue.
The special chance for students to come back to university years after they had left their education mid-way had been withdrawn earlier by the university and some affected students had gone to court.
The High Court had asked the university to apply its mind on the matter.
The credit-based transfer system enables a student to design his or her own degree cutting across streams and also allows for inter-university transfers. The meeting began in the Vice-regal Lodge in the morning amid protests from some student organisations.
There are several teachers and students in the university who have termed this system as a way to bring back the features of the infamous four-year undergraduate programme which had been withdrawn after its first unsuccessful stint last year.
This was introduced as a reporting item not requiring approval.
