The Crime Branch on Friday claimed to have busted an alleged gang of cheats who were running an illegal phone workshop in Filmistan area of Sadar Bazar.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Bhisham Singh said that the accused would bring refurbished Apple iPhones from China and sell them either in Gaffar market or on online shopping portals.

The gang would first change the IMEI number of the phones and then swap the refurbished phones with new ones under warranty, Mr. Singh added.

As many as 409 such phones have been recovered, the police added.
