Over 2,500 cases disposed of at Lok Adalat

The Lok Adalat held at five district court complexes in the Capital on Saturday saw 2,508 pending cases being disposed of out of 3,042 cases listed for hearing.

The cases that were heard related to bouncing of cheques (Section 138 of the Negotiable I Instruments Act), besides civil, electricity, labour, criminal compoundable offences, and recovery matters. Sixty motor accident claims were also disposed of with nearly Rs 1.03 crore being awarded in compensation.

Plea bargaining was also taken up with 84 criminal cases being disposed of in this manner during a special sitting by judges authorised by the High Court in this regard.
