June 03, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - New Delhi:

A drug supplier was arrested by the Special Cell during an investigation into the existence of an inter-State drug smuggling rink.

Rampal (48) and Ved Prakash (38), who have been arrested earlier, led the police to their supplier Sabrati Shah (41).

“There was information over the last six months about drug trafficking activities of the said syndicate, which was active in Delhi, U.P. and M.P. Discreet surveillance was kept upon movements of Rampal, who is based in Delhi, and his associates,” said a senior police officer.

According to the police, Rampal, who was arrested on May 24, was subjected to thorough interrogation about his network.

He disclosed that he used to get supply of opium and heroin from Sabrati , a resident of Mandsore in M.P.

Sabrati was arrested on May 29 near the Khajuri Chowk in North East Delhi at the instance of Rampal, and five kilograms of opium were recovered from his possession.

He had to deliver the said consignment to Rampal, the police claimed. “He disclosed that at Mandsorelegalised cultivation of opium is being done under the government supervision. He also said that unscrupulous elements used to pilfer opium from fields and sell it to bad elements engaged in preparing heroin from opium,” said the officer.
