A 20-year-old auto rickshaw driver has been arrested for allegedly raping a seven-year-old girl in Dundahera village here two days ago. The matter came to light when the police got a call on Sunday evening about a minor rape victim being admitted to the Civil Hospital.
Probe revealed that the man had offered the victim and her cousin some bananas on Friday evening to win their confidence. He then lured them promising cake on Sunday evening. The accused asked the cousin to wait and took the girl to a secluded place. He left the girl outside her house a few hours after the alleged assault.
Locked room
Twenty police teams were formed and a manhunt was launched. CCTV footage showed the man luring the girl and her cousin.
One of the rooms in the village was found locked during the search, but the police noticed a man sleeping inside. His pictures were shown to the victim and her cousin, who identified him, said the police. He was later identified as Kamal, a resident of Dundahera village. He was produced before a court on Tuesday and sent to jail. The victim, who was referred to Safdarjung Hospital, is stable, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (west) Sumit Kumar.
