Fifteen criminal cases were being reported to the police every hour last year in the Capital, a statistical analysis of crime figures compiled by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) has revealed.
According to the NCRB’s flagship Crime in India Project for 2014, the hourly rate at which crime was reported almost doubled from eight cases being lodged per hour during 2013; in fact, close to one-fourth, or a little over 22 per cent of the total instances of crime that occurred across the country last year were reported from Delhi.
The figure is up by more than 9 per cent in comparison to 2013 when Delhi contributed 13 per cent to the national crime tally with the registration of 72,090 cases under the Indian Penal Code during 2013.
