Nearly 20 nurses here have alleged that they were duped of lakhs of rupees on the pretext of lucrative jobs in Brunei, the police said, adding that they were charged ₹2.5 lakh each.

Charged ₹2.5 lakh each

The Crime Branch has launched a probe in the matter. Last August, a nurse working at a Gurugram hospital met three men who claimed to be placement agents. She later took three of her co-workers to meet them at a Green Park guesthouse. The nurses were asked to pay ₹2.5 lakh each.

The accused also charged them ₹5,000 each for medical tests, the police added. In October, these nursers got 18 more colleagues to meet the accused.

Four of the nurses were sent to Brunei from Cochin airport, but discovered that there was no one to receive them there, the police added. When they reached the hospital, the nurses were informed that there were no vacancies. They tried to contact the placement agents, but their phones were switched off.

The nurses then returned to India and tried to contact the accused again, but in vain. Following this, they filed a complaint with the Crime Branch.
