As fire tenders continued to douse the blaze, which started over the weekend, North Delhi Mayor Adesh Gupta and senior civic body officials inspected the Bhalswa landfill on Tuesday.

Garbage management

Stating that the Fire Department had stationed tenders at the site, Mr. Gupta said the civic body has deployed 60 employees, five excavators and two bulldozers to manage garbage at the site.

He directed the officials to strengthen the barbed fence to check trespassing by locals.

‘Culture of garbage’

Mr. Gupta said a consultancy firm is studying the “culture of garbage” at the landfill and is expected to submit the final report by the end of the year.

Based on the report, the corporation will invite tenders for slope stabilisation, leachate treatment, biomining and capping of the site, he said.
