The autopsy report of a 65-year-old retired official at a lubricant manufacturing company, who was mysteriously found dead at his rented apartment in Greater Noida’s Kasna, suggests that he died 15-20 days ago by hanging, the police said on Thursday. The man was a divorcee and was also living away from his children.

The deceased had been living alone since two years following a separation from his wife.

The decomposed body of the senior citizen was found hanging from a ceiling fan on Wednesday around 10 a.m. at his flat by another senior citizen who had come to check on him after he made multiple calls to him that went unanswered.

The police were were informed and an autopsy was conducted.

“The autopsy report has suggested the cause of death as choking. It has brought forth the fact that the senior citizen had died almost 15 to 20 days ago. The family of the deceased has not given any complaint in the matter and hence no FIR was registered,” said Ramphal Singh Station House Officer at Kasna.

He further said that prima facie, it appeared that the man killed himself as he also left a note, which reads that he was going to hang himself to death.

The note left behind by the deceased was found in the room where he allegedly hanged himself. The note read, “I am hanging myself till death. I am taking the decision to end this life.” The note also had phone numbers of the two daughters and a son of the deceased.

One of the two daughters of the deceased who lives in Delhi along with other family members said that he got separated from the family on his own wish after retirement. She said he could have been saved if anyone among the people who used to go for morning walks with him, had checked on him.

“My son talked to him a month and a half ago and he was fine then. We [the family] knew that he was upset after he incurred a loss of ₹25 lakh in the share market a few months ago. However, there was no reason for him to kill himself. He was a lonely man. I wish some friend had checked on him after he had stopped getting out of house,” the daughter said.
