No power for 200 Gurgaon residents since two years

June 29, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:34 am IST - GURGAON:

Hundreds of residents of Princeton Floors in Mayfield Gardens, a residential township in Sector 51 here, staged a demonstration on Sunday seeking regular electricity connections. Over 200 residents of the township are dependent on diesel generator sets for electricity supply for the past two years.

“We got possession two years ago and are still dependent on generators for power. The builder had promised to supply electricity at Rs.8 per unit till regular connections were given, but the cost has increased. Unable to pay the increasing bills, we allowed the builder to curtail supply for four hours daily. Our water supply and sewage are also dependent on electricity. Our lives are complete hell,” said Amit Goswami.

Earlier this week, the builder stopped power supply through diesel generators sets saying it was against the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission laws. The residents then approached the local police, after which supply was restored.

Princeton Floors Welfare Association vice-president Arun Sharma added that they had paid their dues and were entitled to regular connections. “The developer and the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam are involved in a legal battle over failure of the former to set up a 66 KV sub-station as per the conditions in the licence. As per the DHBVN officials, connections will be given only when the builder fulfils this obligation. We have paid all charges and have been given occupation certificates, so why should we suffer?”

A senior DHBVN official said the Punjab and Haryana High Court has stated that electricity connections cannot be provided till the developer gives electrical infrastructure. Developer, Today Homes, could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.
