Two days after a motorcyclist was killed on Signature Bridge after a iron wire pierced through his chest while he was riding during a dust storm, a senior police officer said on Friday that despite several reminders to authorities concerned, no CCTV cameras have been installed on the bridge.

The 25-year-old victim died two days before his second marriage anniversary.

The police are waiting for the post-mortem report to ascertain the nature of injuries that had led to the biker’s death.

The deceased was identified as Pranav Mishra, a resident of Sonia Vihar. He is survived by his wife, elder brother and parents. He was employed with an inverter-manufacturing unit in Peeragarhi area.

Around at 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Pranav had called his wife and said he would be home within 20 minutes. His mobile number was then found switched off, following which his family members got a call from the police who informed them about the accident.

“He was found lying injured on the bridge and was taken to the hospital where he later succumbed to his serious injuries. He was identified with the help of the documents recovered from his pocket. His family was also contacted with the help of those [documents],” said the officer.

The police said it appears that a wire that might have broken due to the dust storm might have pierced through his chest while he was riding his two-wheeler on the bridge. The exact cause of death can be ascertained from the post-mortem report, the police added.

“We have registered an FIR under relevant Indian Penal Code section for causing death due to negligence. The matter is under investigation. We are trying to find out under what circumstances the wire was left unattended,” a police officer also said.

A team, however, that went to the spot for investigation did not find any wire there, the police also said. It might have been removed from the spot by some worker as certain parts of the bridge is still under construction.

The deceased’s body was handed over to the family on Thursday after the post-mortem was conducted.

Earlier incident

On November 24, 2018, two medical students, who were travelling on a two-wheeler, died after one of the victims’ foot was caught in a stray wire dangling from a streetlight on the bridge as a result of which they fell off the bridge, from a height of around 30 feet.
