NHAI, DMRC penalised for dust pollution

The three municipal corporations of the city tightened the nooses around construction sites, who were found not abiding by the dust control measures. Even the government agencies were not spared.

1,600 challans

The East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) issued a total of 1,600 fines for dust pollution, among the violators were the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), and the Anand Vihar ISBT bus terminal.

“Fines were issued to all those who were found in violation of the dust control measures. Since the pollution levels are touching severe, no construction activity is allowed in the city. Fines have been issued to all violators,” said a senior EDMC official.

The municipalities have fixed a fine of ₹50,000, which these agencies will have to pay.

On Monday, South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) councillor from Andrews Ganj also posted a video of a construction site allegedly under the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation , where digging activities were still on.

“Construction still carried out by the metro at Connaught Place. The government is violating all orders by NGT,” he tweeted.
