The upcoming INA station, which will be constructed adjacent to the existing INA metro station, is likely to become a major interchange hub for residents of South Delhi, providing connectivity between the existing Jahangirpuri-HUDA City Centre and the upcoming Mukundpur-Yamuna Vihar metro corridors. It is part of the constructions for Phase-III of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.
The present INA station provides metro connectivity to three major shopping attractions of the Capital -- Sarojini Nagar, INA Market and Delhi Haat.
“With the opening of this new INA station, South Delhi will become more accessible for residents of North, West and East Delhi localities such as Mukundpur, Rajouri Garden and Mayur Vihar. Students travelling between the North and South campuses of Delhi University will also be able to commute by the metro by using INA as an interchange station,” said a DMRC spokesperson.
The residents of Sarojini Nagar and Laxmibai Nagar will also benefit from the new station.
“The INA metro station is important from a construction perspective also since the platform of the new station will be constructed above the concourse for the first time in Delhi Metro. This is because of the height variation between the existing INA station and the new INA station owing to the already existing metro tunnel at the location. The station will have five entry and exit points for the convenience of passengers with three of them being planned for the new INA metro station,” added the spokesperson.
According to the detailed project report, the interchange load of this station is expected to be over 1.29 lakh in the year 2016 on a daily basis. The present INA metro station has an average daily footfall of 37, 000.
