A 10-year-old girl was allegedly raped multiple times by a 27-year-old neighbour in east Delhi’s New Ashok Nagar, the police said on Monday. The accused, an employee of a private company, was arrested on Sunday, they said.
An officer said they received a call on Sunday from the victim’s family.
On reaching the spot, they were informed that a neighbour had raped a minor girl and also threatened her not to tell anyone.
During investigation, the police were informed that the accused used to take the Class V student to a secluded spot near their residence and then rape her. On Sunday, the minor decided to tell her parents following which the police were informed.
A case under Sections 376 (punishment for rape), 377 (unnatural offences), 328 (causing hurt by means of poison) and 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the POCSO Act has been registered.
The police said that the girl’s father works with a private firm.
