The North East Congress Coordination Committee (NECCC) has urged Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to take the lead in finding solutions to long pending disputes over inter-State boundaries between Assam and its neighbouring States.

Former Meghalaya Chief Minister and NECCC chairman D.D. Lapang handed over a letter to the Assam Chief Minister in this regard when an NECCC delegation led by him called on Mr Gogoi at his official residence here on Saturday.

Mr Gogoi gave an assurance to look into the matter with the cooperation of the Chief Ministers of the neighbouring States, a release issued here on Monday by Bobbeeta Sharma, General Secretary, NECCC stated. Assam has boundary disputes with Meghalaya, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram.

Dr. Lapang expressed the need to hold a properly organised meeting of the NECCC at Guwahati in response to which Mr Gogoi agreed and added that a joint effort by all Congress Chief Ministers of the North-east would make the event a success.

The NECCC leaders pledged “full faith and confidence in the honesty, sincerity, integrity and patriotism of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, and stated that during his tenure, Dr. Singh steered the nation to the pinnacle of glory through economic reforms. “It is deplorable that Dr. Manmohan Singh has been dragged into an uncalled for controversy causing personal harassment, which appears to be politically motivated,” the NECCC leaders stated and expressed “deepest appreciation and gratitude to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, for her assured support to Dr. Manmohan Singh in this hour of crisis” and expressed confidence that “the truth would prevail.”
