The Delhi Commission for Women chairperson Swati Maliwal on Friday met Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik to request a proper investigation into the case where nine persons went missing from a shelter home in Dilshad Garden on Sunday.
“It has been five days already and they [eight women and one girl] are yet to be traced. Ms. Maliwal has appealed to Mr. Patnaik to put all resources available to trace the women on an urgent basis. Mr. Patnaik informed the Commission that the matter has been transferred to Crime Branch,” the DCW said in a statement.
Rescued from GB Road
The DCW added that a 15-year-old girl, who is also missing, was rescued by them earlier from GB Road.
“The girl had told DCW that she was raped multiple times in GB Road. While the Commission had ensured that her statements were converted into a first information report, no action has been taken against officers involved. Ms. Maliwal also informed Mr. Patnaik of her apprehensions that officers may also be involved in the re-trafficking of the persons,” the statement read.
She also urged Mr. Patnaik to appoint “sensitive and honest” officers at Kamla Market police station under whose jurisdiction GB road lies.
Stringent action
“I have urged Mr. Patnaik to take stringent action against those police officers in Kamla Market police station who have developed a nexus with the traffickers and are hand in glove with them. I have also asked for the installation of CCTV cameras in GB Road,” Ms. Maliwal added.
