The Delhi Police on Tuesday evening traced a group of six children hours after they went missing from West Delhi’s Uttam Nagar (West Delhi) and reunited them with their parents.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Ranvir Singh the children left their homes in the morning without informing their family members to visit India Gate and some cine-malls in the New Delhi area.
Later in the day, worried parents failing to contact these children approached the police and four separate cases of kidnapping were registered.
“Our teams swung into action and initiated a search for the children. Their photographs were uploaded on ZIPNET and hard copies of the same were prepared and pasted at several locations in the adjoining areas. Since there was a possibility of the children being taken to other cities, teams were also sent to different railway stations, inter-State bus terminals. Search was extended to open fields, play grounds, parks, places of worship, cinema hall, malls etc. for the recovery of children,” said Mr. Singh.
The police also contacted the principal and the faculty members of the schools the missing children are enrolled in but it provided little clue, said the police.
“The search operation continued till late evening when one of the minors was spotted moving near Tilak Nagar Gurudwara. The staff identified him on the basis of the photographs and his parents were contacted. His friends were also traced soon in a nearby area and were reunited with their families,” said Mr. Singh.
The children would now be produced before a Child Welfare Committee as per the laid down procedure.
