An 8-year-old girl was found murdered in north-west Delhi’s Bhalswa Dairy on Friday morning. The police have not ruled out sexual assault in the incident.

An officer said, “The PCR call was received at 11 a.m. stating that a body was found in the bushes in Swaroop Nagar Extension. The victim appeared to have been strangulated. Her body has been sent for post-mortem.” The victim’s family could not find her since 8 p.m.on Thursday and made efforts to till the small hours before reporting the matter to the police. A few hours later, her body was found by a passer-by, the police said. A case under Section 302 (punishment for murder) of the IPC and relevant sections of the POCSO Act has been registered, they said. “The spot has been inspected by the crime team. CCTV footage is being scanned to identify the accused,” he added.
