Accused had gone to the society to repair lift; arrested from the spot: police

A 12-year-old girl was allegedly sexually harassed by a man who had come to repair a lift in a high rise building in Greater Noida’s Kasna on Friday, the police said on Saturday.

Vijay, an employee of Japan Jindal, was arrested on Saturday, a senior police officer said.

“The accused allegedly stopped the lift on the 13th floor of the building and sexually assaulted the girl. She raised alarms for help and somehow managed to get out of the life and reach home,” said Azad Singh Tomar, Station House Officer, Kasna police station.

The victim informed about the incident to her parents following which they approached the police.

The incident took place at 9.30 p.m. on Friday, the police added.

Case registered

After the complaint, a police team reached the society and nabbed the accused from the society premises on Saturday morning, the police said.

“The accused has been arrested under Sections 354 A [sexual harassment] of the Indian Penal code and Section 7/8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act [POCSO Act] 2012. The accused was produced before a magistrate and sent to police remand,” said Mr. Tomar.

Further investigation is under way. The police have gathered the CCTV footage.

They have also recorded the victim’s statement.
