A 17-year-old was apprehended for his alleged involvement in the murder of a 27-year-old gym trainer, who had lakhs of followers on a video sharing application, in Najafgarh on Tuesday. The boy committed the crime along with two others as he wanted to join a criminal gang, said the police.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav said the accused along with rewarded criminals Vikas and Rohit killed Mohit Mor at a photocopy shop. The three were caught entering the shop on a CCTV camera.

The police said that the minor was apprehended from Golf Course Road intersection around 4 p.m. on Thursday following a tip-off.

During interrogation, he allegedly told the police that he wanted to join the Kapil Sangwan alias Nandu gang and approached a member, Sandeep Pahalwan, to test him in criminal activity.

Fired 13 rounds

“On Tuesday, Pahalwan called him and asked him to come to Bhukhandi Road where Vikas and Rohit were waiting for him on a scooty. Pahalwan gave them all a pistol each and also told them the address where Mor was present. They went there and fired 13 rounds at Mor killing him on the spot,” Mr. Yadav said.

The police said that Mangu, a member of the Kapil Sangwan gang, who was killed by the rival Manjeet Mahal gang members in 2017, had invested ₹30 lakh in a plot through Mor. “After Mangu’s murder, Mor did not return the money to his friends, instead took protection from Manjeet Mahal gang through Vishal Dalal and Pradeep Solanki. Dalal was killed in a shootout in Dwarka last week,” the officer said.

The police said when Mangu’s friends asked Mor again for the money, he denied after which they planned to eliminate him.

The police said that Pahalwan has seven cases of murder registered against him while Vikas has 10 cases and carries a reward of ₹50,000 on his arrest. Rohit is also a wanted criminal with a bounty of ₹25,000 on his head.
