Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday said Congress chief Rahul Gandhi’s announcement that the party will guarantee a “minimum income” to every individual in the country if it comes to power was a “revolutionary step”.

“A Congress government at the Centre will ensure that a minimum amount of income is credited to the account of every poor person in the country. This will change the lives of the poor and deal a final blow to hunger and poverty,” Ms. Dikshit said.

She said the principle of universal basic income was the perfect method to deal with poverty and that the Congress will explain the details of the plan in its manifesto for the coming Lok Sabha elections.
