More than a dozen masked men vandalised the reception of a multiplex and a few shops at Raheja Mall here on Monday, causing panic among the shoppers and the mall employees. No one was injured in the incident.
The attackers, wielding hockey sticks, gathered outside the shopping mall on Sohna Road around 7:30 p.m. and went straight to the reception of Carnival Cinemas on the lower ground floor of the building.
Damage worth lakhs
“The assailants had come from different directions and headed straight to the reception of the multiplex. They damaged four LED televisions hanging at the reception and tore posters of movies. The multiplex staff was shocked by the sudden attack and ran away. It was all over within five minutes,” said Gangnath, one of the security guards at the shopping mall.
“The attack triggered chaos and people could be seen running helter-skelter,” said Satish, another security guard. He said that the attackers also damaged the glass door at the entrance of the reception. “They caused a loss of several lakhs of rupees,” said Satish.
The assailants also smashed the window panes of Pizza Hut and Burger King outlets adjoining to the multiplex reception. “There were around a dozen customers inside and a birthday party was going on when the men hit the window panes with the hockey sticks. Thankfully no one was injured as customers were sitting at a distance from the window,” said Gaurav, manager, Burger King.
No slogans raised
The assailants did not raise any slogans and their identity could not be established. The police reached the spot soon after the information reached to them, but the assailants had fled by then.
