Doctors examining Bina, the mother of Mansi (8), Shikha (4) and Parul (2) who allegedly died of starvation on Tuesday in east Delhi’s Mandawali, said on Friday that she is conscious of the fact that her daughters are no more.
Bina has been admitted to the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHBAS) for treatment.
Speaking to The Hindu , IHBAS director Nimesh G. Desai said, “Bina is here with us and she is physically unwell. She is aware that her children have passed away. She realises that something is amiss and that something big has happened.”
“This seems to be a case of mental retardation and she is being assessed. The entire process will take a few days so we will not be able to say anything definite as of now. Adequate treatment is being provided to the patient,” Dr. Desai said.
Meanwhile, the police said Bina’s husband Mangal is yet to be traced.
The police, who filed a missing report on Wednesday, are looking for him across Delhi based on information given by his friend Narayan.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Pankaj Singh said Narayan was asked about Mangal’s previous employers and acquaintances in the city.
“He told us that Mangal would disappear for 3-4 days at a time before returning home. All places mentioned by Narayan are being checked,” Mr. Singh said.
The police on Friday received the second autopsy report of the sisters. However, the report has not concluded the cause of death.
Forensic roped in
“Doctors have not given their final opinion in the second autopsy. The viscera of the three siblings has been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory. That will bring some clarity,” the officer added.
The family’s neighbours had said the children, especially Mansi, were unwell for the past one month. The first autopsy report had stated that the girls had died of starvation.
