A 42-year-old man was shot at by an unidentified assailant outside Mayur Vihar Phase-I metro railway station here on Saturday. Police suspect personal enmity.

Part-time driver Shibu was standing outside the metro station's gate No.2 around 5-30 p.m. when an unidentified man shot at him from behind.

Shibu, who sustained a bullet injury in the back, climbed up to the metro station and sought help from the Central Industrial Security Force personnel. By the time the CISF personnel came out of the station with him, the assailant had escaped.

Shibu was then admitted to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital and was operated upon.

“The closed-circuit television footage shows the man climbing up the stairs outside the metro station following the shooting. It is therefore established beyond doubt that the incident took place outside the metro station. Since no attempt was made to rob him, it seems to be a case of personal enmity,” said Additional DCP (Railways) B.S. Gurjar.

Shibu is a resident of Trilokpuri.

Sources said that Shibu's sister Anita, who stays in servant quarters at Tilak Marg, suspects the involvement of a man who had befriended his wife.

According to Anita, Shibu's wife Anju had an extra-marital affair and this had strained the relations between the couple.

Anju left home in August to stay with her parents. When Shibu complained to his in-laws about Anju's alleged relationship, they beat him up. Shibu then started staying with his sister.

Anita also purportedly told the police that the man would often call Shibu and threaten him.
