The 42-year-old man who was shot at and injured outside Mayur Vihar Phase-I metro station here on Saturday has accused his wife's paramour of having attempted to kill him. The victim is stated to be out of danger.

In his statement to the police, Shibu has purportedly disclosed that a young man named Deepak called him up and asked to meet him outside the metro station in Mayur Vihar. Soon after he reached the station and was waiting for Deepak, someone shot him in the back around 5-30 p.m.

An injured Shibu climbed up the stairs to the metro station, raising an alarm. Hearing the gunshot, the Central Industrial Security Force personnel posted at the station took their positions and then sealed the area. Shibu, a part-time driver, was rushed to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital. “His condition is stable,” said a police officer, adding that his statement had been recorded.

Shibu reportedly told the police that Deepak, a resident of Trilokpuri, had an affair with his wife. It strained their relationship and she allegedly started living with Deepak. Shibu went to his sister's place. Based on his disclosures, the police have formed teams to conduct raids for Deepak, who is said to be a teenager. “He was not found at his residence. Shibu has raised suspicion about his involvement, but we are yet to ascertain if he hired someone to eliminate Shibu or himself fired at the victim,” said the officer, adding that robbery did not seem to be a motive.

Shibu's sister had also alleged that his wife had an extra-marital affair and had been living separately since August last.

The police earlier examined the closed-circuit television camera footage revealing that the incident took place outside the metro station. Subsequently the case was handed over to the local police for further investigations.
