A 30-year-old man was killed, while another sustained fatal injuries in an accident on Wednesday morning near Chaarmurti Square in Noida Extension. The victim was on his way to office in Ghaziabad with his uncle on his bike when an oil tanker allegedly hit them from behind. The driver of offending vehicle is absconding, the police said.

They said that the deceased was identified as Robin Sharma (30), who hailed from Jahangirabad in Bulandshahr, while his uncle was identified Pramod Sharma (45). The uncle, who was riding pillion, sustained injuries in the incident. Both are residents of Sector 66, Mamura, Noida.

The incident happened around 8 a.m. “We were informed about the incident around 8.15 a.m. by a passer-by. A police team reached the spot and rushed the injured persons to a hospital, where Robin was declared dead. His uncle was admitted in the ICU,” said Anil Shai, Station House Officer at Bisrakh.

Mr. Shai said that an oil tanker had hit the men from behind possibly due to low visibility. “Based on the complaint of the deceased’s family and the circumstantial evidence at the spot, we have registered a case against the unidentified truck driver under Sections 279 [rash and negligent driving], 304A [death due to negligence] and 338 [causing grievous hurt] of the Indian Penal Code,” said Mr. Shai.

He further said that efforts are being made to trace the accused and an investigation is under way.
