A 53-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly duping a man of ₹1.25 crore on the pretext of providing him 2.5 acre of agricultural land, the police said on Thursday.

Complaint submitted

The victim, who is a writer, submitted a complaint at Vasant Vihar police station claiming that one Pankaj Dayal and his accomplices Pankaj Kumar Aggarwal, Parvinder Singh and Kapil Tyagi had cheated him of ₹1.25 crore, they said.

The victim was promised agriculture land at Jhatikra village in Najafgarh. The complainant repeatedly contacted the accused but was neither given the land nor his money. The police have raided many known hideouts of the accused. On Monday, the team received a tip-off regarding the accused and started following him since morning.

They chased him through Faridabad, Gurugram and other parts of Haryana. Then the team finally nabbed him as he was trying to enter a five-star hotel in Nehru Place, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West) Milind Dumbere.

Non-appearance in court

Dayal has several FIRs pending against him across Delhi and other States. He has been continuously evading appearance before the court, Mr. Dumbere said. Several non-bailable warrants have also been issued against the accused.

Dayal and his accomplices, who ran a sham construction company named Realtech Construction Ltd., among various other companies, used to lure financially sound investors from south Delhi, said Mr. Dumbere.

Dayal’s accomplices are known to run nearly 20 fake companies under their direct and indirect control, the police said.

Fake documents

They would to promise them enticing opportunities to purchase properties, and seek an advance and loans in exchange for great returns to the investors and lenders. Dayal and his accomplices are accused of duping various prominent Capital-based investors using fake documents, approvals and title deeds.
