A man has been arrested for his alleged involvement in 10 cases of burglary and snatching in different parts of Gurugram over the past year.

Jitender alias Dada, a native of Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh, took to burglary and snatching in Delhi over a decade ago. He has been arrested twice by the Delhi Police and spent a few months in Tihar jail. He shifted base to Gurugram over a year ago along with his gang members, and was active in east and west Gurugram.

Acting on a tip-off, an anti-snatching staff team led by Sub-Inspector Sandeep Kumar mounted technical surveillance and arrested him near Sector 5 Labour Chowk on October 8. He was produced in court and taken on remand.

“He was arrested in connection with a burglary in Rajendra Park police station area. During interrogation, he confessed his involvement in 10 cases of burglary in areas under the jurisdiction of various police stations, including Sector 40, Rajendra Park, Palam Vihar and City. Two of his gang members have also been identified. Efforts are on to arrest them,” said Mr. Kumar.

The police claimed to have recovered 30 gm gold, two gold earrings, a LED television, two laptops, a cooking gas cylinder, a mobile phone and ₹31,500.

Jitender would conduct a reconnaissance during the day in his auto-rickshaw to identify locked homes before striking at night with his gang.

“He had hired an auto-rickshaw to pose as a driver to avoid suspicion. He would drive around in the auto-rickshaw to identify houses locked for a while and target them at night,” said Mr. Kumar.

Jitender was produced before a local court after his police remand ended on Friday and was sent to jail.
