In a case of honour killing, a 21-year-old man was hacked to death with an axe by the relatives of a girl with whom he was in a relationship with.

According to the police, the incident occurred at Begumpur on Saturday, and the girl’s father, Bharat Singh Kataria (36), and grandfather, Mahendra Singh Kataria (66), had been arrested for the murder. The weapon of offence and the blood-stained clothes worn by them at the time of the killing, had been recovered. Both were against the relationship between Bharat’s daughter and the victim, Sushil. Mahendra ran a property business as well as a marriage bureau at Begumpur. On Saturday, the local police control room received a call on the murder of a man at his home near Barwala Road at Begumpur. A police team discovered Sushil’s body hacked with a sharp, heavy weapon. “We learnt that Sushil was in a relationship with a girl in his neighbourhood. The girl’s parents were opposed to this relationship,” said a senior police officer.

The girl was then questioned and she revealed that she was with Sushil on Saturday evening. The girl’s father and grandfather were picked for questioning. They broke down during sustained interrogation and confessed to their crime. “They wanted to take revenge as Sushil was not paying any heed to their repeated warnings to keep away from the girl,” the police said. The two climbed over a wall to enter Sushil’s home and hacked him with an axe even as he was asleep.
