A 40-year-old was arrested by the Crime Branch on Monday night from Indore for allegedly duping over 2,000 people of over ₹20 crore by luring them into buying the membership of his club, which allegedly offered a 12-night stay in five-star hotels every year for the next 20 years.

Raman Kapoor, a hotel management professional who has worked with several tourism companies, started a company, Sunstar - The Club and Goodluck Hotel Pvt. Ltd., along with his wife in 2016.

“Many middle-class people fell for the offer and gave him ₹1 lakh to ₹1.5 lakh each. When they called the company to avail the offer, they failed to get any response,” said DCP (Crime Branch) Madhur Verma, adding that the accused is wanted in eight cheating cases in U.P. and Gujarat.
