A 31-year-old man was arrested for allegedly killing his wife suspicion of infidelity in Outer North Delhi’s Narela, the police said on Saturday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer North) Gaurav Sharma said the accused identified as Bhola allegedly killed his wife Kajal at their residence on April 29 after which he fled to Bihar.

Foul smell

The police said that they received a call on May 1 in which the caller, identified as the landlord of the accused, stated that foul smell was coming from his tenant’s house. He also informed the police that his tenant was not seen for the past two-three days.

“When the police reached the spot, decomposed body of a woman was found wrapped in a blanket. A piece of cloth was also stuffed in her mouth and her limbs were tied. The woman was identified as tenant Bhola’s wife Kajal,” Mr. Sharma said.

The prime suspect in the case was Bhola because he was found to be absconding and his phone was switched off, the police said.

Mr. Sharma said that enquiry in Sitamarhi, his home town, revealed that he had fled to Mumbai.

“His friend was contacted over the phone and he revealed that Bhola had boarded the train to his home town on May 4,” Mr. Sharma said adding that details of the train were obtained and the team left from Sitamarhi for Allahabad.

The officer said that as the train reached Allahabad around 11.30 a.m. on Sunday, search for Bhola was made on the train with his photograph. “A kanthi [neck piece] worn by him helped the police to identify him. He was then arrested and brought to Delhi,” Mr. Sharma said.

‘Quarrel broke out’

During interrogation, Bhola allegedly told the police that the two fell in love and got married a few years ago and they also have two children who live with his parents in the village “because the wife was not faithful”. He said that Kajal had disappeared for a few months recently and he suspected that she was having an extramarital affair.

“On April 29, she had come home to Bhola and vowed not to leave him but a quarrel broke out between the two after which he got angry and tried to strangulate her. He let go off her but when she threatened to file a police complaint against him, he killed her,” Mr. Sharma said after which he fled.

During further investigation, it was revealed that Kajal had solemnised another marriage in January with one Saroj whom she did not inform about her first marriage.

“When she had left Bhola for a few months, she used to visit sometimes and tell Saroj that she was going to meet her brother and that he should not accompany her because the brother was against the marriage,” Mr. Sharma said.
