Vice-President Hamid Ansari has suggested creation of new avenues for employment of scholars while establishing new facilities for study and research.
Inaugurating the Indian Association of International Studies (IAIS) at Jawaharlal Nehru University here on Tuesday, he said a realistic approach in international studies is an institutional necessity. Taking into consideration India's intellectual resources, he said “our output in the sector of education should have been better”.
The Vice-President, who is also a former visiting professor at the School of International Studies in JNU, wished that IAIS would emerge as a platform for the exchange of ideas and experiences in the sector of global studies and research.
“The association could identify deficit areas in the current system and bring forth course correction along with the creation of public awareness.” Earlier in the function, Mr.Ansari released the book “Shaping India's Foreign Policy-People, Politics & Places”, co-authored by IAIS President designate Prof. Amitabh Mattoo and Assistant Professor for Diplomatic Studies Happymon Jacob. JNU Vice-Chancellor B.B Bhattacharya and Dean of SIS Yogesh Kumar Tyagi were also present at the function.
