A senior lawyer has been arrested for allegedly raping a law graduate inside his chamber in Delhi High Court premises, the police said on Thursday.
The accused was arrested on Wednesday and later produced before a city court, they said, adding that the court has granted him three days police custody.
The victim lodged a complaint at Tilak Marg police station on Wednesday, the police said.
“A case of sexual assault has been registered against the accused in Tilak Marg police station. He has been arrested. The victim is law graduate and was working as an intern with the accused,” said a senior police officer.
The 21-year-old victim in her complaint stated that in 2015 she was interning with a senior woman lawyer in Delhi High Court when the accused lawyer approached her for an internship with him.
After completing her first internship, she joined him. In 2016, the accused called her to Nehru Place on the pretext of meeting a client. There, he tried to molest her but she managed to flee.
Later, he called her and apologised for the same. Also, he persuaded the victim not to file any police complaint.
In July 2016, he took her to Ahmedabad on the pretext of another client meeting. He had promised that they would return to Delhi on the same day. But, the accused cancelled the flight at the last moment, saying that he has some pending work.
Then, she asked the hotel staff for a separate room who said that no other room was available at that time.
Blackmailed victim
During small hours, he sexually assaulted her, the victim alleged. He also clicked her pictures during the rape and threatened to leak them if she reported the matter to anyone.
Also, the accused threatened to ruin her career.
The accused sexually assaulted her on many occasion during the last two years, the victim told the police. He even promised to marry her but later she found out that he was married with two children.
Then, again, the accused has sexually assaulted her inside his chamber in Delhi High Court premises.
