Law student arrested for harassment over Facebook

Updated - November 16, 2021 10:50 pm IST - NEW DELHI

A final year law student has been arrested for allegedly harassing his former classmate by uploading her contact number on a fictitious Facebook account.

Dilshad Garden resident Shubham Kansal, 22, wanted to teach the woman a lesson for turning down his friendship proposal. The two had studied together at a prominent school in the trans-Yamuna area.

The much-harassed woman approached Delhi Police Crime Branch on March 6 saying she had been getting scores of unsolicited calls everyday for over a fortnight. She then discovered that her mobile number had been uploaded on a fictitious Facebook account along with a provocative photograph of another woman and an open friendship offer.

Acting on the complaint, the police arrested Shubham on Friday. A case has been registered under various Sections of the Information Technology Act. Shubham created the fictitious Facebook account in February.
