Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal on Thursday directed the Delhi Police to prevent repeated encroachment and illegal parking, while addressing a law and order review meeting at Raj Niwas.

Challenges

The Traffic Police gave a presentation at the meeting, informing the L-G about the 48% increase in population and 179% increase in vehicles, but only 15% increase in road length since 2001, said Raj Niwas in a statement.

This, the police said, led to challenges for traffic management.

They also stated that Traffic Police and local bodies were carrying out anti-encroachment drives. The L-G emphasised the need to prevent “re-encroachment”, the statement said.

He also ordered an awareness campaign about safety and traffic rules. The L-G told the agencies concerned to carry out enforcement drives to make people use authorised parking spaces instead of illegal parking.
