Jhandewalan jammed; commuters oblivious of protest

more-in

All roads leading to the office of the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) in Jhandewalan were barricaded by the police for about an hour to stop the “Kiss of Love” protesters from reaching the office.

The barricading led to massive traffic chaos in Karol Bagh, Paharganj and Jhandewalan. Hassled commuters were either changing their routes to go to their destination or had to wait for the jam to clear. Most of them were, however, unaware about the reason of the jam.

“I have been stuck in the jam for around 30 minutes. What is the reason behind this? Did some accident take place?” asked a commuter oblivious of the protest.

Another commuter complained: “We have been stuck in the jam because of some irrelevant protest by some college students. What is the point of doing something like “Kiss of Love”? If they want to protest, they can go to Jantar Mantar and do it peacefully there. Why disturb everyone else in the city.”

The traffic situation was restored to normal only after 6 p.m. when the protesters dispersed from the roundabout at Jhandewalan.

The traffic police, however, denied receiving any phone call about a jam due to the protest.
