Jat agitation: DMRC may shut all stations outside Delhi

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) may shut all stations outside Delhi from Sunday night till further orders with Jat agitators threatening to intensify their protest demanding reservations in jobs and education on Monday, March 20.

According to sources, the Delhi Police has asked the Metro Corporation to terminate all trains at the last station on all lines in Delhi from 11.30 p.m. on Sunday. Also exit at 12 stations in Central Delhi will not be allowed from 8 p.m. on Sunday.

Stations in New Delhi which may be affected include — Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chwok, Central Secretariat, Udyog Bhawan, Lok kalyan Marg, Janpath, Mandi House, Barakhamba Road, RK Ashram Marg, Pragati Maidan, Khan market and Shivaji stadium.

Meanwhile, lakhs of members of the Jat community will arrive in Delhi on March 20 and protest at the borders if prevented from entering the Capital, said Yashpal Malik, the national president of the Akhil Bharatiya Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti.

Mr. Malik said that not only would the protesters come from neighbouring states, but Jats living in Delhi would also join the agitation.
