November 01, 2014 09:59 am | Updated November 16, 2021 05:52 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

A “jagran” was held ‘peacefully’ at the makeshift temple, “Mata ki Chowki”, in Trilokpuri on Friday in the presence of a large number of policemen. A feast will be organised on Saturday morning after which “Mata ki Chowki” will be removed.

Balraj Kumar Talwar, one of the organisers of the “jagran”, said: “We have permission from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. But it might be stretched a bit.”

“The residents had requested us for permission to hold a “jagran”. We assessed the situation. We relaxed the prohibitory orders and gave permission for the gathering,” said a senior police officer.

The locality saw a heavy deployment of Delhi Police and Rapid Action Force personnel. In the evening, the Delhi Police used Unmanned Aerial Vehicles to search the area. Several police personnel were also deployed on rooftops and around religious places.

According to senior police officers, the area would be under tight vigil till Muharram. The residents were happy to venture out of their homes past 6 p.m.
