An insurance company agent was abducted and murdered by two constables — one from Railway Protection Force and another from Uttar Pradesh Police — inside a government accommodation in north Delhi’s Sarai Rohilla, the police said on Sunday.

Prem Kumar (25), who was working with Life Insurance Corporation of India , lived with his family in Moti Bagh, the police said.

On July 19, after Prem did not return home, his family lodged a missing complaint at Sarai Rohilla police station.

‘₹1-cr insurance policy’

Before leaving home, Prem had said that he was going to meet Ajay, a dog handler with the RPF, in his government accommodation at Sarai Rohilla railway station, the family told the police.

Ajay called Prem to introduce him to his friend Sarvesh as they wanted to buy a ₹1-crore insurance policy, the police said.

Phone records

After analysing the victim’s phone records, the police approached Ajay who said Prem had left after policy documentation.

“We got suspicious when Prem’s motorcycle was recovered around 50 metres away from Ajay’s quarter. He was then detained,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North), Nupur Prasad.

During interrogation, Ajay confessed to having murdered Prem with the help Sarvesh, who is a constable with the UP Police.

Ajay allegedly told the police that he needed money after he was suspended for misbehaving with a woman constable. So, he planned to abduct Prem as he used to collect insurance premium from many clients on a daily basis. “Ajay and Sarvesh strangulated Prem with a rope. He died on the spot,” added Ms. Prasad.

To dispose of the body, the accused stuffed it in a trunk and rented an SUV. Then they left the city and reached Etawah on July 20 morning. Following this, the two accused dumped the body in a canal there.

On Sunday, a team of Delhi Police recovered Prem’s body stuffed in a trunk from a canal in UP’s Etawah.

The family members then identified the body.

“Police teams are conducting raids to nab Sarvesh,” Ms. Prasad added.
