An 18-year-old homeless teen was beaten to death allegedly by the owner of a tent shop and his employee on suspicion of theft in central Delhi’s Paharganj on Wednesday night.

The accused have been caught by policemen on patrolling duty when they were thrashing the teen on the road for stealing their cycle cart.

Police said that on Wednesday night around 11 p.m. they received a PCR call saying that two persons were thrashing a boy outside Rohit Tent House at Multani Dhandha in Paharganj. Soon after receiving the call, the police patrol team rushed to the spot. They found the boy lying injured on the road and two men standing nearby.

Organ failure

“The critically injured boy was rushed to Lady Hardinge Hospital. But, he succumbed to injuries. Doctors said that he suffered critical internal injuries and died of organ failure,” said a senior police officer.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (central) Mandeep Singh Randhawa said that with the help of other vagabonds, the deceased was identified as Shibu. The body has been kept in the mortuary. “We are trying to find out if the deceased has got any relative or family member,” Mr Singh said.

He added that the two attackers were taken into custody and later arrested. The accused have been booked under IPC section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and sent to jail.

“We have uploaded Sibhu’s photographs and other details on zonal integrated police network (Zipnet) so that anybody known to him can see it and claim his body. We have not been able to trace his family. His body will be cremated if nobody claims it in the next 72 hours,” the officer added.

Police are also trying to find out if there is any CCTV in the locality where the incident happened.
