Himachal wants early approval of AIIMS site

The Himachal Pradesh Government has urged the Union Government to approve the site it had selected for setting up All India Institute of Medical Sciences in the hill State. Health Minister Kaul Singh Thakur who called on the Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda on Thursday requested him to endorse the site identified at Kothipura in Bilaspur district. He asked him to send a Central team to visit the site for final approval. He also thanked Mr. Nadda for approving an AIIMS- level hospital for the hill State in current Union budget.

Mr. Thakur also apprised the Union Minister that the State had sought financial assistance of Rs.313 crore under the Programme Implementation Scheme but only Rs.261 crore had been released due to which the State was facing challenges in strengthening the health services. He requested him to release the supplementary amount under the scheme.

Mr. Nadda, who also belongs to the hill State, was urged to grant administrative approval for the cancer centre at the regional hospital at Mandi for which Rs.45 crore had been sanctioned. Mr. Thakur raised the issue of burn units at IGMC, Shimla, Nahan and Nalagarh hospitals.
