A headless body of a woman cut into eight pieces and stuffed inside a jute sack was found lying by the roadside near a drain in Sarai Rohilla here on Saturday. The victim is yet to be identified.

The body was found by a police patrolling party around noon when they spotted an unattended sack covered with a blanket by the roadside near the Inderlok Metro station. When the police team opened the bag, they found a woman's body inside.

“The body has been cut into eight pieces. It seems that the murder was committed elsewhere and the body disposed of by the roadside to avoid identification. The body is not decomposed and probably the murder was committed just a few hours before it was spotted,” said a senior police officer.

The victim, who appears to be in her early 20s, has fair complexion. She has “PJ” tattooed on the right hand wrist and symbol of “Om” and “SR” tattooed on the back of the hand. “She wore a green suit. Going by her clothes, she appears to be from a middle-class family,” the officer said.

Even as efforts are being made to identify the victim, the body has been preserved at the Subzi Mandi mortuary. “Locals are being questioned in this regard and the neighbouring police stations have also been informed. As a usual practice, the body is preserved for 72 hours before being cremated,” said the officer.

A murder case has been registered at the Sarai Rohilla police station in this connection.

The case bears similarities to the sensational Neetu Solanki murder case whose body was also found stuffed in a carry bag at the New Delhi railway station in February last. Neetu, who came from a middle class family, was also in her early 20s and a tattoo carved on the right side of her abdomen. It was later found that she had allegedly been murdered by her live-in partner Raju Gehlot, who is still absconding.
