HC notice to State govt on plea seeking construction of school

PIL says building a school will benefit thousands of children

The Delhi High Court has issued notice to the State government and Delhi Development Authority on a petition seeking to build a school for kids living in the vicinity of Prem Nagar-III, Kirari, here in the Capital.

The petition filed in public interest by NGO Hamara Prayas Samajik Utthan said that building a school in Prem Nagar-III will benefit thousands of children residing within and nearby areas.

Advocate Ashok Aggarwal, appearing for the NGO, submitted that there is need of a government school from Nursery to Class XII in the vicinity of Prem Nagar-III. He argued that despite community demand for establishment of a government school since 2015, the authorities have failed to do so. Mr. Aggarwal said that though land is available for the school, nothing has been done.

Mr. Aggarwal argued that in the absence of a school in the vicinity, students have to go to government schools at distant places like Mundaka, Nangloi or Paschim Vihar. “Needless to say several fatal accidents have already taken place while students cross the railway line for going to schools at Mundaka, Nangloi or Paschim Vihar,” the petition said.

The High Court has posted the case for further hearing in May.
