HC, NHRC take note of delay in salary

February 04, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday issued notices to the AAP government, the Medical Council of India and the Indian Medical Association on a public interest writ petition against the ongoing strike by doctors and nurses in the Capital over alleged non-payment of wages to them by the civic bodies. Notices were also issued to the East and North Delhi Municipal Corporations as well as the associations representation doctors and para-medical staff. The court asked all the respondents to file their replies by February 10.

The petition sought directions to medicos and nurses on strike to call it off and resume medical services with immediate effect in the interest of public at large.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), meanwhile, has taken cognisance of a complaint alleging that non-payment of salaries to school teachers has brought them on the verge of starvation. NHRC Member Justice D. Murugesan has issued notices to the Delhi government’s Chief Secretary and Commissioners of the North, South and East Delhi Municipal Corporations in the case, asking them to file an action report within four weeks.
