: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday said that several development works were under way to improve infrastructure in Gurgaon.

While addressing a public meeting at “Vikas Rally” in Kakrola-Bhangrola village here, Mr. Khattaar said that there was a proposal to extend the metro line from HUDA City Centre to Manesar or Sohna and work was being done on it. The expansion of the private-run metro in Gurgaon was also likely, he said.

The Chief Minister said that works worth Rs.900 crore had been initiated on the National Highway-8 to smoothen traffic. He further said that the Gurgaon-Dwarka Expressway had been accorded the National Highway status and the Nelson Mandela road in Delhi was being connected to Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road in Gurgaon to increase connectivity between Delhi and Gurgaon. He also made a reference to the Metrino Personal Rapid Transit System announced earlier by Union Minister for Road Transport Nitin Gadkari. He said that earlier Haryana had only four National Highways, but his government had got 12 new National Highways approved in the State.

He said that a Smart City spread over more than 1,000 acres was being developed in Gurgaon. He added that the Manesar-Palwal stretch of the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway had been inaugurated and the remaining 83 km would be completed in a year’s time.

The Chief Minister also announced modernisation of the Gurgaon railway station on the lines of Nizamuddin terminal in Delhi, a bus stand spread over 83 acres, expansion of the Chandu Budhera water treatment plant, and multi-level parking facilities and community centres in Sector 4 and 53.

Referring to the long-standing demand for a Gurgaon Development Authority, Mr. Khattar said the matter was in court and the government was mulling to form a legislation to deal with the legal hurdles.

He also announced Rs.45 crore for all the four assembly constituencies in Gurgaon. Public Works Department (Buildings and Roads) Minister Rao Narbir Singh said that underpasses had been planned at IFFCO Chowk, Signature Tower and Rajiv Chowk to decongest the three major intersections and work was likely to start in a month’s time.

Haryana Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma was also present on the occasion.
